Common questions
Is custom-made jewellery more expensive than buying from a high street store?
Honestly? Often, it’s the opposite. When you buy from a traditional retail chain, you are paying for their massive marketing budgets, mall rents and "middleman" markups.
At Jubilee Jewellers, you are dealing directly with the workshop. We work with budgets of all sizes. Whether you have $500 or $20,000, we’ll show you exactly what we can create for that amount. No hidden fees, just honest pricing.
Do I need to have a design ready before my consultation?
Not at all! Most of our customers start with just a vague idea or a few saved photos from Instagram or Pinterest. During your chat, we’ll look at different stone shapes, metal colours, and settings together.
We use our 30+ years of experience to help you "sketch out" a design that fits your style and your budget.
Is there a fee for the initial design consultation?
No, it is 100% free and no-obligation. We believe you should feel comfortable and informed before making a decision. You’ll sit down directly with a master jeweller (not a salesperson) to discuss your vision and get an honest, transparent quote.
How long does it take to make custom jewellery?
Because we craft everything in our on-site Wellington workshop, our typical lead time is 4 to 6 weeks from the moment you approve the final design and your deposit.
Let us know if you’re on a tighter deadline (e.g. a proposal). We always do our best to accommodate.
Do you offer lab-grown diamonds as well as natural diamonds?
We offer both! As qualified gemmologists, we can source high-quality lab-grown diamonds and ethically sourced natural diamonds.
We can show you the differences in person so you can choose the stone that best aligns with your values and your budget.
Can you remodel my old or inherited jewellery into something new?
Yes, we specialise in giving sentimental pieces a new life. However, because every heirloom is unique, the process depends on the quality and type of materials you have:
- The metal: We can often melt down high-carat gold (14ct, 18ct, or 22ct) to create a new band. If your gold is a lower carat or a mix of different types, we may recommend "trading it in" toward the cost of fresh refined gold to ensure your new ring is structurally sound and won't crack over time.
- The stones: We can carefully unset your diamonds or gemstones and incorporate them into a modern design. Our master jewellers will inspect your stones under a microscope first to ensure they are durable enough for a second lifetime of wear.
- The cost: While using your own gold can be cost-effective, the labor involved in unsetting, refining, and hand-forging is a bespoke service.
The best first step? Bring your "treasure box" into the studio. We’ll test the metal, measure the stones, and give you an honest assessment of what is possible.
